Many athletes from the Russian Federation will not get to the 2024 Games anyway

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that athletes from Russia and Belarus who missed the qualification for the Paris Olympics will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Games even if the countries' bans are lifted. The IOC has refused to ask international sports federations (ISFs) to try to add Russians and Belarusians to qualifying tournaments that have already taken place.

"The IOC will not ask the ISFs to retroactively adapt their qualification systems to allocate additional quotas to athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports who have lost qualification opportunities due to the war," the International Olympic Committee's website said.

Russian fans called the situation a disgrace.

"Now the IOC's rhetoric about the admission of Russians becomes clear. It is clear that most of them will not be able to qualify because they have not competed in international events for a whole year," Russian fans are outraged.

Sports fans from Russia understand that their idols are unlikely to make it to the 2024 Games.

"Now they'll create a bunch of official reservations that can be used to unblock them at any time..." - users write.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the day before, UN experts called on the IOC to admit all Russians. Including those who support the war in Ukraine.

The UN supported the initiative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to restore the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in international sports competitions as neutral athletes.
