How to clean the oven

Cleaning your oven is a real challenge when it comes to cleaning. Grease build-up, burnt-on food and other unsightly stains can be difficult to remove with detergents. High temperatures during cooking cause a hardened layer of dirt to form, which is often resistant to conventional cleaning products.

The process is further complicated by the bulky design of the racks and the interior of the oven. If you've been neglecting to clean your oven regularly, House Digest experts recommend purchasing a brush for your drill and a screwdriver.

An unusual life hack

A drill brush and a screwdriver turn into a powerful cleaning tool when attached to your appliance. The brush, which usually has stiff bristles or abrasive pads, rotates quickly when attached to the drill.

When used for cleaning an oven, this brush makes time-consuming work easier. The rotating action combined with the power of the drill helps break down and remove stubborn grease and burnt-on residue. The design of the brush allows it to reach crevices, corners and intricate oven components for a more thorough cleaning than traditional methods. This minimizes the physical effort required, significantly reducing cleaning time.

How to clean the oven

  1. Remove the racks and wipe off any debris with a damp sponge.
  2. Mix baking soda and water until a paste is formed. Spread this mixture over the oven surfaces, avoiding the heating elements. Let the mixture sit for at least 15 minutes and wipe off with a damp sponge. Baking soda is a mild abrasive that helps break down dirt.
  3. Next, attach the brush to your electric drill. Spray the inside with a solution of water and white vinegar or use hydrogen peroxide to disinfect it. Vinegar is a versatile cleaner, while hydrogen peroxide acts as a natural disinfectant. A brush, when used with light pressure, will help remove dirt and grease.

After cleaning, wipe the surfaces with a sponge or cloth. Be sure to wipe off any residue and dry the oven before using it again for cooking.
