The Russian Chess Federation (RCF) will become the first sports organisation of the aggressor country to transfer from Europe to Asia. The organisation noted that a formal decision could be made as early as February 28.

It is alleged that the Council of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) has studied the possibility of the Russians joining the Asian Chess Federation and found no violations in such a transition and issued its recommendations. On February 21, FIDE approved Russia's withdrawal from Europe and entry into Asia.
