In the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, which is "under the control" of Yevgeny Prigozhin's Wagner PMC, local residents gather on the streets of the city from early morning. They come to watch the militants and also argue with each other. Some Russians in Rostov support Prigozhin, while others support Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Mash publication published a video from the streets of the city. Barricades were made of civilian cars and machine guns were placed in the bushes. "People have gathered at the intersection of Budyonovskogo and Pushkinskaya streets. The crowd is arguing loudly with each other, it's hard to make out the shouts," the video's comments read.

Photos of Wagner's fighters are also published in local publics. They buy food in restaurants, feed street animals and talk to locals. At the same time, the security forces stationed in Rostov did not actually prevent the seizure of the city.

Some residents of Rostov succumbed to panic and bought up food in supermarkets. The stores were forced to impose restrictions on the number of products they could sell to one customer. Logistics in a seized city can be disrupted, so supply problems can indeed arise.

The day before, Prigozhin declared "war" on Shoigu: since the morning of 24 June, buildings have been seized in Rostov-on-Don, shootings have been reported in the Voronezh region, and a large number of military vehicles and armed men have been spotted in a number of regions. A counter-terrorist operation was announced even in Moscow, and in several regions people were urged not to leave their homes.

According to Prigozhin, mercenaries control all military facilities in Rostov, including the airfield. He issued an ultimatum to Shoigu.
