In every cupboard: what things moths like best

Moths are a very dangerous insect. In addition to holes in clothing, moths leave behind cobwebs, fibres and excrement that look like small grains of sand.
And although the life cycle of a moth is quite short - from a few days to a few weeks - even during this time, the insect manages to lay a huge number of eggs. The Best Life magazine told us what things moths like best.
Moths feed on animal fibres such as wool, cashmere, silk, and fur. Experts note that infected items and food should be thrown away. If the clothes are too expensive for you, you can disinfect them, wash them in hot water, or have them dry-cleaned.
Clothes you haven't worn for a long time
"Moths tend to attack items that have not been used for a long period of time," said Scott Hodges, entomologist and vice president of Arrow. Therefore, you should regularly clean your closet and get rid of unnecessary items. Clothes can also be stored in airtight bags.
Crowded shelves
Moths are more likely to attack your wardrobe if it is overcrowded. In this case, the air cannot circulate properly, and the dark and damp environment is very attractive to moths, where they can breed and lay eggs in peace.
Try to hang clothes so that there is not much space between the items. Do not fill each shelf as tightly as possible.
Things that have not been washed for a long time
This point applies not only to clothes, but also to rugs, blankets, pillows, furniture and other textile accessories. Carefully inspect these items - they may be long and heavily infested - and wash or clean them as soon as possible.
Dirty laundry
Regularly go through baskets of dirty laundry and check places where pets like to sleep. Animal hair is another source of food for moths.
Natural fabrics
Moths love natural fibres such as wool, cashmere, fur and silk. These materials provide the insects with nutrients.
Synthetic materials, such as polyester and nylon, are less attractive to pests because they lack organic substances in their composition. This doesn't mean that you should avoid natural fibres entirely - on the contrary, they are some of the highest quality materials for clothing. Just make sure you keep them clean or store them in airtight bags, especially in the off-season.
