How to know when it's time to throw your pillow away: two simple tips

How long do you use the pillows you sleep on? They need to be replaced periodically, as their filling wears out over time and can harbor not-so-healthy microorganisms.
But how do you know when it's time to get rid of an old pillow? Popular TikTok blogger Lynsey, who calls herself the Queen of Clean, has suggested two quick tests. If your pillow doesn't pass them, it's time to get yourself a new one. (To watch the video, scroll to the end of the news story)
Fold in half
For the first test, you'll need to bend your pillow in half. Lay it on the bed and fold it over, pressing the top half with your hand. Hold it like this for 30 seconds and release it. If the pillow unbends, it's still firm enough to support your head well while you sleep. If the item remains bent, it's time to throw it away.
Saddle test
Extend your straight arm forward as if it were the back of a horse, and place a pillow over it like a saddle. If it lies parallel to the ground and holds its shape, it is okay. If it dangles, it's time to replace it with a new and firmer one.
How long cushions can be used
Experts on the suitability of furniture and accessories say that they all have a limited lifespan. The bed, as well as all bedding, remain suitable for quite a short time due to direct contact with the body.
Pillows are best to be replaced once every year or two. Approximately as often you need to buy new bedding. However, much depends on the frequency of its use.
Decorative pillows can last long enough, which is about 5-10 years, provided that you change pillowcases quite often. Mattresses can be used from 6 to 8 years. Sofas need regular replacement as well. While many families use this piece of furniture for decades, experts say it should actually be replaced every 7 to 15 years.
