How to get rid of burnt smell in the microwave: simple methods

Burning food in the microwave is just as easy as burning it on a conventional stove. But simply airing it out, as with a stove, won't solve the problem. The smell from inside the chamber won't disappear easily, and additional measures will be needed. Fortunately, it is not too difficult to get rid of the smell of burning in the microwave.
OBOZREVATEL tells you about the main life hacks in this regard. They require simple ingredients at hand.
What to do if food is burnt in the microwave
First of all, open the door immediately. The longer the oven is closed, the harder it will be to remove the smell. Find out what exactly caused the problem - usually a spill or splash of some kind. Once the oven has cooled down, remove the burnt food with a damp cloth and dispose of it properly. Then proceed to deodorise the device.
How to remove the smell of burning naturally
Natural "killers" of burnt odours include lemon, vinegar, baking soda, coffee grounds, or activated charcoal. The easiest and most effective way is to fill a microwave-safe bowl with water and lemon juice or fruit slices, and then heat it at high power for two to five minutes. The lemon water steam will neutralise the burning smell and leave a fresh aroma.
Another option is to mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for two to five minutes. When the programme has finished and the oven has cooled down, you will need to wipe the cavity dry to get rid of the specific vinegar smell. The burning smell will also disappear.
Coffee grounds, baking soda and activated charcoal are also excellent odour absorbers. Simply place a small container of one of these products in the microwave for a few hours, for example overnight.
If you like sweet scents, pour a teaspoon of vanilla extract into a bowl and heat it for 30 seconds. Then let the appliance cool for a minute and then heat for another 30 seconds.
How to keep your microwave clean
To avoid the smell of burning, you need to remove food residues from the oven in good time, and even better, prevent spills and crumbs. To do this, cover the food with microwave-safe lids or films.
Remember to observe the recommended power levels and cooking times for different types of food. Also, clean the inside and outside of the oven regularly. Be sure to clean up any spills or food residues immediately after use.
Always use microwave-safe containers and utensils. This way, you will avoid overcooking food or the appearance of toxic steam.
