How to dry lavender

Lavender can not only decorate your home and fill it with a pleasant aroma but also scare away annoying pests. To preserve the color, beneficial properties, and smell of flowers, you need to know how to dry them properly.

OBOZREVATEL has found tips that will help you do it easily. You don't need a special device or much time.

You should pick lavender in the morning because it is at this time that the flowers have the strongest aroma. Form small bunches of flowers so that all the shoots can dry well. Carefully tie the bouquet at the bottom, but do not squeeze the flowers together too tightly so that air can get inside.

You can air-dry lavender or dry it in a paper bag.

Fresh air

Choose a dark, dry, and cool place that gets plenty of air. Hang the bunches with the flowers facing up. Avoid the sun as it can affect the quality of the fragrance and color. It takes one to two weeks to dry completely.

Paper bag

Place the lavender bunches in a paper bag. Open it from time to time to allow the moisture to escape. This method may take longer, but it will give the lavender a rich flavor and color.

If the plant breaks easily, it is completely dry. Separate the flowers by wrapping your fingers around the stem and pulling from top to bottom. Store the lavender in a dry container or bag.
