How to clean sunglasses

Sunglasses will not only protect you from bright sunlight, but also complement your summer look. The only downside is the vulnerable glass, which quickly becomes covered with dirt, dust and scratches.

The old and actually not very good way - breathing on the glass and wiping it with clothes - can only make the situation worse. OBOZREVATEL figured out how to clean sunglasses so as not to spoil or scratch them.

How to clean sunglasses properly

According to experts, the most effective way to clean sunglasses is to use two ingredients - soap and water.

Step 1. The first step is to wash your hands so as not to stain the frame with grease and dirt.

Step 2. Clean the surface from dust and debris by rinsing the lenses with warm water. Even small solid residues can scratch the glass during the cleaning process.

Step 3. The best product for cleaning glasses is liquid soap or dishwashing detergent. After wiping the frame, apply 2-3 drops of the product to the lenses.

Step 4. Now rinse the glasses in warm water. Rinse several times so that the soap is completely washed off.

Step 5. Dry your glasses with a microfibre cloth. It does not scratch the lenses and does not leave stains.

Taboos when cleaning glasses

Paper towels

Paper products are made from cellulose fibres that can scratch glasses.

Drying in the open air

If you dry your glasses outdoors, there is a high risk that the glasses will develop streaks.

Wiping with clothing

Do not wipe the glass with clothing, as pollen, dust and skin cells accumulate in the fibres, which will leave marks and may cause scratches.

Why you shouldn't breathe on glass

Firstly, it is not hygienic. Secondly, coffee, tea, carbonated drinks, alcohol and even juice affect the acidity of saliva and liquid particles. Of course, you shouldn't spit on your glasses. All of this can damage the coating.

Aggressive cleaning agents

Store-bought eyewear cleaners can also have a negative impact on glass. They typically contain ammonia, bleach, acetone, vinegar and rubbing alcohol - key ingredients for cleaning glass and getting rid of smudges. However, these chemicals are very dangerous for tinted glass, as they can damage and wash away the tint.
