How to clean the iron

What could be more unpleasant than damaging your favorite shirt with a hot iron? Damaging the iron. Household appliances should be cleaned regularly as the accumulation of stains can shorten their lifespan and lead to damage to clothing.

If you use your iron frequently during the week, you should clean it at least once a month or whenever you notice dark spots on the surface. Experts say that an affordable product that you probably already have in your kitchen will come in handy.

Life hack for cleaning the iron

Baking soda is a powerful cleaning agent that helps break down the buildup on the sole of the iron. The abrasive structure dissolves the most stubborn dirt and does not scratch the surface while removing dark marks.

Without regular cleaning, the plate begins to deteriorate, which can lead to fabric burns and the need to purchase a new iron. In addition, the cleaning process takes only a few minutes, so you shouldn't put it off every time.

You will need:

  • baking soda
  • distilled water;
  • salt.

Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of distilled water in a bowl until a thick paste forms.

Apply the mixture and gently scrub the surface. Keep scrubbing until you notice that the iron starts to shine.

For the most difficult stains, you can add a few tablespoons of salt.

Important note. Make sure that abrasive particles do not get into the steam vents. You can clean the holes by soaking a cotton swab in distilled water and gently wiping away the dirt.

After you are done cleaning the sole of the iron, wipe it with a damp cloth.

Experts also advise to always use distilled water when ironing clothes as tap water contains sediment that can clog steam holes.
