How to clean a hairbrush correctly: when to change it

Yulia PoteriankoLife
The regularity of maintenance of a comb depends on many factors

A comb is a beauty tool that literally everyone has. And we use it every day. But how often do you brush it? And yet the health of your hair and scalp depends on its condition. After all, the teeth collect dead skin and hair particles, sebum, residues of styling products and, in the end, the usual household dust. Bacteria and fungi feel good in this mixture. That's why it is so important to know how to clean a comb or hair brush.

That's why OBOZREVATEL gathered a few best practices on how to clean this tool. And tells how often it should be changed.

Step 1 - hair removal

The loss of several hairs a day is a normal, natural process of hair renewal. And these hairs often get stuck in the comb. Therefore, the first step in cleaning the comb is to remove the hairs that have accumulated between the teeth. All that you can remove with your fingers, you can also do it with another comb. The main thing is not to damage the tool itself.

Step 2 - soaking

To properly rinse your instrument, pay attention to the material it is made of.

Plastic or metal - put it in a bowl with warm water and about 2 tablespoons of your regular shampoo, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then clean it with a toothbrush or cotton swab. If necessary, brush the item with a toothbrush with a little baking soda.

Wood or natural fiber - brushes made of natural materials should not be soaked, but only immersed in warm soapy water, then brush with a toothbrush. Ideally you should soak only the working part of the wooden comb, avoiding water on the handle.

Shampoo for brushing the comb is better to take without silicones, ceramides or other ingredients that coat the hair. After all, these same particles can also accumulate on the comb.

Step 3 - rinse

When the basic brushing step is complete, rinse the comb with clean, cool water until all the soap is washed away. The massage brushes should be squeezed around the pad to remove all moisture from underneath. Next, the combs should dry outdoors for at least 12 hours, spread out on a dry towel with the bristles facing down. If you need to dry the tool immediately, you can blow dry it properly with a hair dryer.

Vinegar life hacks

If you want to properly degrease a scallop, you can soak it for a few minutes in a bowl of water with a tablespoon of vinegar dissolved in it before the main wash.

How often you should brush your comb

You don't have to create a cleaning schedule. The rate at which dirt accumulates depends on your hair type, the condition of your skin and the grooming products you use, so there can't be a one-size-fits-all rule.

Just pay attention to the condition of the comb. When it looks stale, especially around the bristles, you can put it in a bowl of soapy water.

How often should you change your hairbrush?

Like any good tool, a comb should be replaced periodically. If its teeth are bent or broken or if there are cracks in its base, it means that this comb will no longer perform its function properly and it must be replaced. You should also change the tool if you start to have difficulties in cleaning it from the hair.

In the past, OBOZREVATEL told you how to dry your hair better with a hair dryer or naturally in the air.
