Have a nice death on Venus? The co-founder of the scandalous OceanGate has decided to put people in space

Venus, with temperatures of nearly 500 degrees, is not a good place to live

While Ilon Musk plans to settle people on Mars, and NASA - to create a colony on the Moon, Guillermo Zonlein - co-founder of the company OceanGate, which sent five people on the bathyscaphe "Titan" in a doomed journey to the wreckage of the "Titanic" at a depth of 3.8 kilometers, now intends to create a space colony on Venus. Already by 2050, 1000 people will allegedly be able to live there.

About his space plans Zonlein told the publication Insider. The entrepreneur does not even care that the planet, to put it mildly, is not too hospitable to people.

Venus is the second planet from the Sun. Although it is referred to as Earth's twin, it is actually, if anything, except that it is very ominous. Thanks to a thick sulfuric atmosphere that creates a greenhouse effect, temperatures on Venus' surface reach a whopping 482 degrees Celsius.

But Zonlein, who presented the Humans2Venus project, intends to assemble a research team tasked with creating a colony that will float above the planet's hot surface, which he says will be home to 1,000 people by 2050.

He is convinced that going to Venus is no different from going to the moon.

"When you talk about going to Venus, it causes astonishment outside the space industry. And it even causes astonishment inside the space industry," the entrepreneur admitted.

He noted that it's an "ambitious goal" but it's "totally doable" by 2050.

It's worth noting that Zonlein wasn't too involved in the whole tragic Titan bathyscaphe story, as he only helped Stockton Rush, who died in the tragedy, realize the idea of underwater adventures and stepped down as CEO of OceanGate back in 2013, retaining a minority stake in the company.

"Forget OceanGate. Forget Titan. Forget Stockton," Zonlein urged.

In his words, "humanity could be on the cusp of a major breakthrough and not take advantage of it." The entrepreneur is obviously trying to brush off skeptics who are not too willing to trust the claims of a man who allowed the creation of an underwater tourism company that simply ignored all safety precautions.

And, as the Western media write, it is unclear how exactly Zonlein plans to create a fleet of spaceships that will withstand long stays under the dangerous ultraviolet radiation in the atmosphere of Venus and how the Venusian colony will operate at all.

As told OBOZREVATEL, the tragedy with the "Titan" occurred on June 18, when the bathyscaphe went to explore the Titanic. The wreckage of the submersible was discovered only on June 22. You can read all the details of this story here.
