It's still early fall and almost summer-like warmth. However, it's time to get your warm clothes out of the closet and get them ready for the cold weather. If you washed your winter jacket when the season ended, it may need a lighter cleaning. Just like a down jacket - they are often not desirable to machine wash, so you have to use other approaches.

What to prepare for home cleaning of the jacket

To clean the fabric without washing, you will need some tools. The main principle of choice is that they should all be soft, so as not to damage the fabric in the process. So, you need to prepare:

• a container under the cleaning solution;
• a container for clean water;
• a clean sponge;
• cotton disks;
• microfiber cloths;
• wet wipes;
• dry cloths - textile or paper.

And don't forget to test the chosen product for safety for the fabric and its dye somewhere inconspicuous. It is best to do this on the wrong side of the product.

First of all, the places most in contact with the body - cuffs, collar, pockets - will have to be cleaned. Also inspect the item for stains - it will be better to treat them too.

Remedy with ammonia

Ourcalde well removes contaminants from fabrics. To prepare a remedy for cleaning winter outerwear, take:

• 100 ml of warm water;
• 1 teaspoon of ammonia;
• 1 teaspoon of laundry gel or dishwashing gel.

Mix all the ingredients. Steam the areas to be cleaned with an iron. It is best to do it from a small distance so that very little moisture gets on the fabric, or steam it through gauze. Even better is to use a steamer.

Moisten a sponge or cotton disk in the cleaning solution and gently rub the dirty spot with it. Move from the edges of the stain to the center, so as not to spread the contamination further on the fabric. Leave the mixture to act for 30 minutes, after which collect the residual cleaning liquid with cloths and rinse the treated area with a damp microfiber cloth.

Laundry soap

Grate a small bar of laundry soap on a fine grater. Lay the jacket out on a horizontal surface and moisten the areas to be cleaned. You can steam or spray them lightly with a spray gun. Sprinkle a thin layer of soap shavings over the areas and leave it to act for 30-40 minutes. After that, remove the product with dry cloths and wipe the treated area with a damp microfiber.

Hydrogen peroxide

This liquid is good at dissolving sebum that collects on cuffs and collar. But it can also lighten the dye, so the remedy should definitely be tested in an inconspicuous place. If all is well, dilute in a glass of warm water 3 teaspoons of peroxide of pharmacy concentration and apply this solution to the dirty places with a cotton disk or sponge. To erase the contamination, it can be treated with the hard side of the sponge, but it is necessary to avoid excessive pressure, so as not to damage the fabric. A soft brush, such as a toothbrush, is also suitable for this treatment. If the product does not work, you can additionally treat the dirty area with a weak solution of citric acid and leave it to act for 20 minutes, then rinse the cleaned area with a damp microfiber cloth.

Vertical washing

To avoid immersing the jacket completely in water, it can be fully cleaned with detergent on weight. Hang the item over the bathtub so that the cleaning solution can flow freely into it. In a basin of warm water, dilute a small amount of the detergent you use to wash your clothes - powder, gel, etc. Dip a sponge in this soapy solution, wring it well so that nothing drips off, and clean the surface of the fabric with it. Process the entire surface of the jacket in this way. Make sure that it is not moistened too much, so that the soapy water does not penetrate into the filling. After that, wipe off the soapy residue with a microfiber cloth. Wipe until all traces of foam are gone. But also avoid moisturizing the fabric too much. Finally, shake the jacket well and allow it to dry.
