Do not throw away: what to do with fallen and rotten apples

When growing apples, the loss of part of the crop is inevitable. Some fruits will fall prematurely, while others will begin to rot on the branches. Experienced gardeners argue that this "illiquid" should not be thrown away - it can bring considerable benefits to the garden.
OBOZREVATEL asked how to properly dispose of substandard apples. And what to do with them to avoid harm and maximize the benefits.
To remove or not to remove
At first glance, it may seem that the fallen, rotten fruits left on the ground will decompose over the winter and provide nourishment to the soil. And this is partly true. However, they are more likely to become a breeding ground for infections and pests that can spread to adult plants and destroy a healthy crop. Therefore, fallen and rotten apples should be collected and taken out of the garden for recycling.
Apple compost
To get good organic fertilizer from substandard apples, you need to put them in a pit and cover them with a fairly thick layer of soil - 10-15 centimeters. This will protect them from the attention of fruit flies and other insects and allow them to rot well, giving off all the nutrients. It is recommended to add dolomite flour or ash to apple compost, as it can be too acidic on its own.
Fertilizing the beds
Apples can be of great benefit to fruit bushes and trees. To do this, you need to bury them right in the garden. To prepare the fruit for this use, they need to be sorted, discarding wormy and rotten ones, and crushed or crushed with a shovel. Next, this mass is placed in a furrow next to the plants that are to be fertilized. Such a furrow is dug near a row of bushes or around a tree at a distance of 10 cm from the trunk. Its depth should be about 15 cm so that the fruits can be well covered with soil and humus. From above, the furrow is covered with sawdust or straw.
