Crops after which you can not plant onions

The rules of crop rotation in the garden did not appear just now. People have observed how vegetables grow and how they interact with each other for centuries to learn how to produce food more efficiently. They have also learned how to produce food more efficiently by choosing the right neighborhood and changing plants in the beds.
OBOZ.UA asked gardeners about their experience of growing onions. This plant is quite demanding and will not grow well after some predecessors that suck out certain substances from the soil. It may even fail to produce a crop at all.
Crops after which you can not plant onions
Beans, peas, and other legumes
These plants do not have a very favorable effect on the soil bacteria that onions need to grow. Therefore, it will grow weak and small.
Sage
The aromatic herb saturates the soil with nitrogen, so it is good to plant it on depleted soil. But onions won't feel very comfortable after sage because they don't need that much nitrogen.
Asparagus
These two crops use the same nutrients for development. Therefore, the first of them will use up the entire supply, and the second will grow on depleted soil. What's more, onions and asparagus can compete for them even growing in neighboring beds.
Different types of onions
Different types of onions will also compete with each other. Thus, onions, shallots, leeks, and even garlic are best planted in different beds. Plant them at a distance because they also suffer from the same pests.
What predecessors are good for onions
If you want to get a rich harvest of this vegetable, choose crops that grow on other food. They will not bring pests to the garden that onions are afraid of. Such plants include:
- carrots
- potatoes
- eggplant
- peppers

- squash
