Sprats in a tomato, like in the USSR: a recipe for a homemade snack for the winter
Sprat is a very budget-friendly fish that is usually eaten in salted form. You can also marinate it yourself and preserve it with vegetables and tomato sauce to make borscht.
Cook Svitlana shared a recipe for homemade canned sprat in tomato on Instagram.
Ingredients:
- sprat - 3 kg
- tomatoes - 3 kg
- carrots - 1 kg
- sweet pepper - 1 kg
- onion - 1 kg
- Ukrainian sauce - 2 cans
- salt - 100 g
- sugar - 250 g
- vegetable oil - 500 ml
- vinegar - 3 tbsp
Method of preparation:
1. Pass the tomatoes through a meat grinder, add pepper strips, onion half rings and grated carrots, mix and cook for 40 minutes.
2. Next, add the "Ukrainian" sauce, salt, oil, sugar and sprats, and cook for two hours over low heat. After two hours, add the vinegar, simmer for another 15 minutes and pour into sterile jars, preserve, turn over and wrap.
