If you like Napoleon cake, you can make it at home from ready-made puff pastry, as well as from pita bread. Custard is the best choice for this dessert.
Cook Irina shared a recipe for delicious Napoleon cakes with custard on Instagram.
Ingredients:
- 500 g of puff pastry
- 500 ml of milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 120 g of sugar
- 40 grams of corn starch
- 50 g of butter
- vanilla on the tip of a knife
- powdered sugar
Method of preparation:
1. Defrost the puff pastry and cut into 8-10 equal squares. Place on a baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes at 180 C.
2. While the base is still warm, break each piece into 3 layers and let cool.
3. For the cream: heat the milk almost to a boil. In a separate bowl, beat 2 eggs, add salt and sugar. Beat until smooth and immediately add the cornstarch and mix well to avoid lumps. Pour about a third of the milk into the egg mixture in a thin stream, stirring constantly to prevent the egg from curdling. Then pour this mass back into the milk, also in a thin stream and stirring constantly, bring to a thickening and remove from the heat and add butter and a little vanilla to the hot cream. Cover the cream with cling film and let it cool well.
4. Assemble the cakes: spread the custard on the 1st and 2nd layer, cover with the top layer. Sprinkle the finished cakes with powdered sugar.
