Serdyuchka impressed her fans with a Ukrainian translation of the song "Wanted a groom". The video went viral
Stage image of Andriy Danylko, Ukrainian pop star Verka Serdyuchka presented a new version of her hit song "I wanted a groom". The Russian-language song, which was recorded as a duet with singer Glukosa in 2004, has acquired a completely different sound.
The updated fragment was performed at Verka Serdyuchka's concert in Dnipro on August 19. The video of the performance was posted on TikTok by the star's fans. In 6 days, the video gained over 670 thousand views.
First, the singer reminded the audience how the original song goes:
"I wanted a groom, so I got pregnant
La, la, la, la
Oh, I wanted a groom, I got there in time
La, la, la, la, la
I wanted a groom, so I got pregnant
La, la, la, la, la
I wanted a groom, I got there in time
Serdyuchka later performed the song in Ukrainian:
Wanted a dick,
So I got pregnant,
La-la-la-la-la-la,
Wanted a dick,
And did it in time,
La-la-la-la-la
Who doesn't want a dick, la la
"I said, 'I'm not going to translate old songs. It's 300 years old, and I translated, do you know what song? I'll show you a fragment. I think it's even more accurate," commented Danylko. After that, the room filled with applause.
Netizens shared their impressions of what they had seen:
- "Oh, it's so beautiful in Ukrainian, it would go viral."
- "Well, it sounds good! Why not do it right away?"
- "I remember Serdyuchka, who spoke in surzhyk, and then gradually everything became Russian. Although I liked the songs in any language."
- "I like Ukrainian better!"
- "I don't mind listening to songs by our artists in any language. It's still ours."
- "Ukrainian is better."
As a reminder, in 2024, Andriy Danylko got into several scandals related to his unwillingness to translate his Russian-language hits into Ukrainian. In particular, the artist was criticized for his performance at the Osocor Residence in Kyiv and for refusing to participate in the ATLAS UNITED 2024 festival. At the end of July, the showman told a Latvian broadcaster in an interview why he does not consider Russian to be the language of the occupier.
