Bookmakers' favourite Loreen from Sweden performed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 grand final: what her song, which was accused of plagiarism, is about

Loreen from Sweden performed in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023

On Saturday, May 13, the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 on behalf of Ukraine started in Liverpool, UK, with participants from 26 countries competing for the crystal microphone. Among them is Sweden, which bookmakers predict to win the contest. The representative of this country, Loreen, performed on the vocal stage at number nine with the song Tattoo.

OBOZREVATEL learned about it while watching the live broadcast. Let's find out what the Swedish representative sings about and why her contest song was accused of plagiarism.

Bookmakers put 53% on Loreen's victory, and Euro fans have no doubt that their predictions will be correct. Moreover, the singer's triumph at Eurovision is a common thing for her, as she already won in 2012 with her song Euphoria, which still remains one of the biggest hits of the contest in its history.

But let's get back to the song Tattoo. In the Eurovision Song Contest final, 39-year-old Loreen captivated the audience in the hall and on TV with her powerful vocals and an unusual performance, the essence of which was that the singer was caught between two moving structures that seemed to be trying to crush her, but she confidently resisted.

The Swedish contestant's song is, as Loreen herself said, a dark dance pop track about how to keep love alive through pain. And although the lyrics say that the lovers are forced to say goodbye, the singer herself says that this is not the end of their story.

Tattoo's song sparked a heated debate online, as some internet users accused her of plagiarism. They noticed that the Swedish contest song resembles the famous 18-year-old track "In Captivity" by Ukrainian singer Mika Newton.

Mika Newton herself also reacted to the "theft" of the song. She assured us that she sees nothing wrong with the similarity of the melodies and even wished Loreen to win the contest again.
