"This is not a stalemate situation": Zelenskyi reacted to Zaluzhnyi's article and spoke about the course of the war in Ukraine. Video

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has spoken out about a resonant article written for The Economist by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyy. According to the head of state, the situation on the battlefield is not actually a stalemate.

Zelenskyi made the statement on November 4 at a press conference following a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. In particular, the president recalled what the forecasts were on the eve of a large-scale Russian invasion in February 2022.

"Remember, on the 24th, everyone told us how long we had left. And foreign leaders were communicating with us, saying that we should wait a little bit, and we will solve this issue, almost all of Ukraine will soon be captured, and Kyiv will be captured. And there were certain signals, conditions, and so on: we have to give up everything, change people, recognize Russia, forget Europe, and not think about NATO. And what is Ukraine, there is no such state," Zelenskyy said.

The President added that he had heard "all these voices" since the beginning of the war, including predictions about "where we will be tomorrow."

"I am absolutely sure that we were in a more difficult situation than Ukraine has probably ever been in since the restoration of its independence. But we believed very much and fought and won. Today the time has come - people are tired, everyone is tired and there are different opinions, it is understandable. But this is not a stalemate. This is not some kind of news. Russia controls the sky," Zelenskyi commented on Zaluzhnyi's article.

According to the head of state, no one in Ukraine wants to throw people "for meat," as Russia does.
