"What is our fault?" Russian Olympics champion demands Russians "express contempt" for Europe over 2024 Olympics
The head of the Russian national fencing team's coaching council, Mark Rakita, is outraged by the suspension of Russian athletes from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The two-time Olympic winner called on his compatriots to "express contempt" for the tournament in the French capital.
The 86-year-old Rakita said this in an interview with the propaganda publication Sport-Express. The former saber fencer spoke with typical Russian disdain and arrogance about Europeans and criticized the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for allegedly imposing unfair sanctions on Russia.
"On the one hand, you have to participate in the Olympics, but you have to show them contempt. I don't know how to do it. There are probably smart minds who can come up with it. In any case, it is important to inform them that we do not understand them. And they do not understand us. We are put in the position of being guilty, and what are our athletes guilty of? Everyone has a sense of dignity. I would have refused to participate with my ego," Rakita said.
The day before, in fencing, Ukrainian Olga Harlan defeated ex-Russian Anna Bashta in the 1/8 finals of the 2024 Olympics, and then won the bronze medal.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Russian Olympic biathlon champion Svetlana Ishmuratova tried to ridicule the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris with the words "Europe's brains are all messed up".
