Ukrainian strongman who won the world champion died in the war with the Russian occupiers
Dmytro Gogol, a Ukrainian powerlifter and GPF-2018 European and world champion, with the call sign Papay, died at the front while performing a mission to evacuate the wounded. The trainer and rehabilitation specialist from Vinnytsia was 47 years old.
The titled athlete served in the Hospitallers volunteer medical battalion. On the afternoon of October 24, the car Dmytro was driving came under massive artillery fire.
In the morning of that day, Dmytro sent a photo to his student, two-time Ukrainian powerlifting champion Viktoriia Palamarchuk, writing that he had taken a shift and that he was "under fire." It was the last photo of him in his life.
Dmytro Hohol joined the battalion after the full-scale invasion began. He worked with the crew near Kreminna, rescuing soldiers and helping civilians during several rotations.
