A Ukrainian powerlifter who won a world championship died in the war against the Russian occupiers

Ukrainian powerlifter, European and World GPF-2018 champion, Dmytro Gogol, with the call sign Popeye, died at the front while performing a mission to evacuate the wounded. The trainer and rehabilitation specialist from Vinnytsia was 47 years old.

The titled athlete served in the Hospitallers volunteer medical battalion. On the afternoon of October 24, the car Dmytro was driving came under massive artillery fire.

In the morning of that day, Dmytro sent a photo to his student, two-time Ukrainian powerlifting champion Viktoriia Palamarchuk, writing that he had taken a shift and that he was "under fire." It was the last photo of him in his life.

Dmytro Gogol joined the battalion after the full-scale invasion began. He worked with the crew near Kreminna, rescuing soldiers and helping civilians during several rotations.

The funeral service for the fallen hero at the Transfiguration Cathedral of the OCU.

He was buried in a closed coffin on the Walk of Fame at the Sabariv Cemetery in Vinnytsia.

Dmytro is survived by his mother, who came from Spain, and his wife, who is now in Poland with their daughter.
