"That ship has sailed": the Russian national team reiterates its refusal to participate in the 2024 Olympics

The President of the Russian Swimming Federation (RFS), Vladimir Salnikov, has confirmed that Russian athletes will not compete in the sport at the 2024 Olympics. The four-time Games winner noted that he sees no reason for so-called neutral athletes from the aggressor country to participate in the competition in Paris.

He said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV, effectively forbidding athletes to even think about traveling to the French capital. The head of the WFF noted that none of the Russian athletes are on the list to participate in this year's Olympic Games.

"I have already said: the page has been turned. This cannot happen in the current situation, because I cannot imagine that the conditions will change and we will suddenly be allowed to participate on an equal footing with everyone else. That ship has sailed. Possible relaxation of the conditions to make them acceptable... It seems unrealistic. There are many different parameters, plus we have to meet the standard. There may be some moves that I don't know about, but as far as sending an application letter is concerned, we don't have any athletes who would have a neutral status," Salnikov said.

Earlier, two-time Olympic champion Yevgeny Rylov, who took part in the Z-concert in March 2022 in Luzhniki, announced his refusal to go to the 2024 Olympics. And swimmer Yevgenia Chikunova called the conditions for the admission of athletes from Russia to the Games in Paris a disgrace.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, it became known that Russian rowers refused to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. And the governor of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov ordered athletes from the occupied peninsula to refuse to travel to the French capital.
