"Perversion": the Russian Foreign Ministry complained about what "Anglo-Saxons and NATO" did to Russian athletes

Zakharova condemned the IOC

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has made another absurd statement about the suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions. The representative of the aggressor country called this decision one of the manifestations of the "perversion of the Olympic movement" that "the Anglo-Saxons and the rest of the NATO members have done".

Zakharova said this in a commentary for the Sport-Express. The diplomat also denied the fact of the mass use of banned drugs by Russian athletes, which came to light after the 2014 Sochi Olympics and was recognized even by Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin.

"What the Anglo-Saxons and the rest of NATO have done to the Olympic movement cannot be called anything but perversion. Firstly, they started introducing unsportsmanlike rules and requirements. Then they replaced regulations and difficulty levels to take advantage of that, Then they politicized it. Then they started to ban athletes and teams under any fictitious pretexts from alleged doping to non-compliance with nationality. It seemed that we understood what they were trying to achieve: they wanted to squeeze us out as the strongest competitors. But it turned out to be much worse as they don't need normal sport at all," Zakharova said.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the impossibility of participation of Russian athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris under the national flag. Earlier, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach criticized Ukraine and announced the conditions for Russia's admission to the 2024 Olympic Games.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the IOC banned athletes from Russia and Belarus from participating in the 2023 Asian Games, which athletes were going to use to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games.
