"For patriotic reasons": leaders of another Russian team refuse to participate in the 2024 Olympics

The leaders of the Russian national sailing team have refused to participate in the qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games, and, accordingly, in the tournament itself in Russia. The athletes took this step "for patriotic reasons". Traditionally, it was announced by the officials.

This time, the decision to boycott the competition was announced by the president of the All-Russian Sailing Federation (VFPS), Sergey Dzhienbayev, in a commentary to the propaganda news agency TASS. According to him, some representatives of the Russian Federation in this sport may try to participate in the race in a neutral status.

"I have no information that anyone is negotiating with the International Sailing Federation to participate in this regatta on April 20-27, it is an individual matter. However, the first team members have already refused to participate for patriotic reasons and because of the lack of administrative and advisory support. Each athlete applying for neutral status must pay a certain amount to verify compliance with the criteria for obtaining it. According to unverified information, it will cost about €5,000," Dzhienbayev said.

Earlier, Russia's rhythmic and artistic gymnastics teams refused to participate in the 2024 Games. Archers will not go to Paris either.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Olympic speed skating champion Svetlana Zhurova accused the IOC of humiliating Russians and treating them "as second-class citizens."
