Ivanova condemned Hidalgo

Two-time Olympic gymnastics champion Lidia Ivanova has lashed out at Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, who opposed the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the 2024 Olympics. The former athlete hysterically called the head of the French capital an idiot.

Ivanova said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV. The winner of the Melbourne '56 and Rome '60 Games spoke with undisguised contempt of the French, who have "stupid people in charge." At the same time, the former gymnast forgot that in Paris, the mayor is elected by direct vote, unlike in Russia, where local leaders are appointed by the Kremlin.

"The mayor of Paris is a bastard, an idiot! I'm not even looking for other words. I feel sorry for the Parisians, the French, that they have such stupid people in charge. Well, how can you answer like that? First of all, it speaks of stupidity, stupidity. A person who is waiting to welcome athletes to the Olympics has no right to say such things. It doesn't matter what rank they are. This is uncultured. I feel sorry for the Parisians that they can have such a phenomenon," Ivanova said.

Earlier, former world heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev attacked the French with threats over Anne Hidalgo's words. In turn, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the Paris mayor with the words "another such statement...".

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Mikhail Mamiashvili, president of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBI), complained that in Paris, the Wehrmacht troops were "welcomed with joy" but that Russians "do not want to see them."
