The process of Ukraine's accession to NATO should be started now - the former president of Lithuania

Grybauskaitė's position on Ukraine's accession to NATO

The process of Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance should begin now and be conducted under an accelerated procedure. Waiting for the end of full-scale hostilities to grant Kyiv NATO membership will create conditions for dictator Vladimir Putin to prolong the war indefinitely.

Former Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė said this in an interview with The Associated Press. At the same time, she does not believe that the nearest NATO summit in Vilnius will provide Ukraine with positive answers to all the requests she expects.

"The West, even after Russia unleashed the greatest war in Europe since World War II, has never really understood the threat Moscow poses to the continent. It is not just a war against Ukraine, it is a campaign against our entire civilization," the politician stressed.

Grybauskaitė believes that Ukraine must win, otherwise the entire Western world will be left in limbo. Aggression can gain strength at any moment, even decades later.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, according to Zelensky, the invitation of Ukraine to NATO at the upcoming summit in Vilnius showed the world the strength and unity of the North Atlantic Alliance.

"We need this motivation, we need honesty in our relations," the head of the nation stressed.
