Rada MPs called on the participants of the NATO Summit in Vilnius to invite Ukraine to the Alliance without MAP

Ukrainian MPs backed the draft address of the Verkhovna Rada to the participants of NATO Summit in Vilnius (Lithuania), which will take place on July 11-12, 2023. Politicians urged to provide for a mechanism of inviting Ukraine to the North Atlantic Alliance and to recognize the inexpediency of the MAP (Membership Action Plan) for our country.
The corresponding vote was held on June 28. Votes "for" gave 279 members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. This was reported in Telegram parliamentarian Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
In the said appeal (bill #9430) Rada called on the participants of the Vilnius summit:
- To note the substantial military and political assistance to the Ukrainian people;
- To note Ukraine's significant progress in actually achieving compatibility of its military standards with those of NATO;
- To commit itself to granting Ukraine full membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and to envisage a mechanism for inviting Ukraine to NATO;
- To recognize the inexpediency of Ukraine's passage of the NATO Membership Action Plan phase and make a strategic decision in Vilnius to invite Ukraine to NATO membership.
As OBOZREVATEL wrote:
- June 27, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that there are all grounds for a political invitation of Ukraine to NATO, in addition, "there is a full understanding" regarding security guarantees for our country for the time before joining the Alliance.
- Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the summit in Vilnius in July will be successful if NATO takes a "decisive step" to determine a clear algorithm for the Ukrainian state's accession.
