Members of the European Parliament called on NATO countries to invite Ukraine to the Alliance. They want the Atlantic Alliance to fulfill its obligations to Ukraine and prepare the ground accordingly.

This was reported by the press service of the EP. In a resolution passed Thursday by 425 votes to 38, with 42 abstentions, parliament said the accession process would begin after the war ends and be completed as soon as possible.

Until the accession process is complete, the EU and member states, along with other NATO members and their partners, should work closely with Ukraine to develop a temporary framework of security guarantees that will apply immediately after the war.

It is emphasized that Ukraine's integration into NATO and the EU will enhance regional and global security and strengthen ties between Ukraine and the Euro-Atlantic community.

It should be noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expects that the North Atlantic Alliance at its summit in Vilnius (Lithuania) in summer 2023 should give Ukraine a "clear signal" regarding membership.

On July 1, at a meeting of the European political community, he said that the summit "needs a clear invitation to Ukraine for membership," as well as security guarantees on the way to joining the military bloc.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, former NATO Secretary General Anders Rasmussen said that a group of Alliance states might want to deploy troops to Ukraine
