This has never happened before: Ukraine sets a historic record at the Australian Open 2024

Ukrainian tennis players have set a historic record for our country at the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2024 season, the Australian Open. For the first time ever, four of our compatriots will play in the third round of competitions of this level.

This is reported by the portal "Big Tennis of Ukraine". He recalls that earlier three tennis players from our country reached the third round of the majors at the same Australian Open (2018, 2023) and the US Open (2016).

This success was made possible by the triumphs of Marta Kostiuk and Lesia Tsurenko, Elina Svitolina's crushing victory over Bulgaria, and Diana Yastremska's triumph over the Moscow native who fled Russia for France.

On January 19 in Melbourne, Tsurenko will play her third-round matches against world number two Arina Sabolenko of Belarus, and Kostiuk will play against Elina Avanesyan of Russia. The next day, Svitolina will play against Switzerland's Victoria Golubic and Jastremska will take to the court, facing American Emma Navarro.
