Greek companies are ready to participate in the transportation of Ukrainian grain

On 21 August, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Greece on a working visit. There, he said that our country had created an alternative "grain corridor" in the Black Sea for the world's food security. However, according to the guarantor, it needs air defence protection.

Zelenskyy said this during a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. According to the Ukrainian leader, the corridor needs to be strengthened to ensure stable operation (scroll to the bottom of the page to watch the video).

"Ukraine has created an alternative grain corridor in the Black Sea. It can work. But for the corridor to be stable, the air shield needs to be strengthened. This is important for the Black Sea region, in particular for our city of Odesa. And this can be a historic contribution of Greece to European security if you help us protect the Black Sea area and air defence systems," the President stressed.

Zelenskyy added that Greek companies were ready to participate in the transportation of Ukrainian grain and stressed that Ukraine was counting on it.

"We discussed the situation in the Black Sea region. In particular, the threat posed by Russia against freedom of navigation and ports. We are doing everything we can to restore security on the Black and Azov coasts. This is important from a global perspective," the guarantor said.

As a reminder, the last time the vessel left the port of Odesa on 16 July as part of the grain deal. After the agreement was disrupted, Russia resorted to systematic air attacks on port infrastructure to stop Ukrainian agricultural exports. At the same time, there are information speculations and attempts at provocations in the Black Sea to influence the movement of ships to Ukrainian ports.

As you know, Turkey is ready to guarantee unimpeded passage through the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits for dry cargo ships carrying grain from Ukraine. So far, no ships have passed through the straits, but they will continue to do so.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy summed up the results of his visit to the Nordic countries by the evening of 21 August. After visiting Sweden, the Netherlands and Denmark, he said that Ukraine would produce Western military equipment.
