Greta Thunberg ridiculed the role of the UN in the aftermath of Russia's explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. Video.
One of the world's most famous environmental activists, Greta Thunberg, took part in a rally in front of the UN building in Bonn, Germany, to draw further attention to Russia's crimes in Ukraine. She ridiculed the UN's role in the aftermath of the Russian military's explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, which led to the largest man-made disaster in recent decades.
At the event, journalists asked Thunberg how she would assess the UN's work in overcoming the consequences of this disaster. However, this question only made the eco-activist laugh (to watch the video, scroll to the bottom of the page).
"Not very high, but yes..." - she said through her laughter.
Greta Thunberg also stressed that the whole world is now supporting the Ukrainian people and the attention of all states is focused on Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the crimes committed by the Russian occupation forces.
"This is an action for Ukraine, against Russia's invasion and the crimes it is committing. All I can say to the Ukrainians is that we support you, we are with you, we see everything that is happening. The world's attention is now focused on Ukraine and Russia. We will not stand by in silence. Be strong, we stand in solidarity with you," she stressed.
The environmental activist added that Russia should be held responsible for the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, and called the actions of the aggressor state "absolutely horrific".
The well-known activist has already expressed her position on Russia's terrorist attack in Nova Kakhovka and spoke to President Zelenskyy. Thunberg noted that the occupiers are responsible for a real ecocide, for which they will be prosecuted in the International Criminal Court.
As a reminder, on June 6, the day the occupiers blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, the UN official Twitter account posted a message about the "Day of the Russian Language". However, this international organisation did not mention the station blown up by the Russians.
The official response to the attack came only on June 9. A group of countries at the UN, including Ukraine's partners in the Security Council and the European Union, expressed "strong condemnation" of the shelling by Russian troops in the evacuation areas associated with the disaster caused by the Kakhovka dam.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the European Parliament at a meeting in Strasbourg condemned the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and called this act of Russia another war crime. Moscow will be punished and will inevitably pay for the damage caused to Ukraine.
