There are materials and knowledge: Ukraine can create nuclear weapons in a few weeks if it wants to – BILD
In the context of the ongoing war with Russia, Ukraine is seriously considering restoring its nuclear weapons stockpile. The country may need only a few weeks to create its first nuclear bomb.
This is reported by the German newspaper Bild. A high-ranking Ukrainian official in charge of weapons supplies claims that Ukraine has all the necessary materials and knowledge.
"We have the materials, we have the knowledge. If there is an order, it will take us only a few weeks to get the first bomb," he said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statement on nuclear weapons came as a surprise to Western partners. It reflects the seriousness of Ukraine's intentions, which is not ready to put up with new attempts at aggression by Russia.
"Ukraine will not accept a second Russian attack on Kyiv. In this case, the Ukrainian nuclear arsenal, which the country voluntarily abandoned in the 1990s, will be restored," the newspaper writes.
It is noted that a few months ago, closed discussions were held with politicians and officials on the possibility of restoring the nuclear arsenal.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during a conversation with US presidential candidate Donald Trump, he emphasized the need for Ukraine to join NATO. He recalled the Budapest Memorandum, which failed to protect Ukraine after it gave up nuclear weapons.
The Ukrainian president also said in Brussels that Kyiv continues to prepare for the second Peace Summit. The West insists that the summit should be attended by representatives of the Russian Federation, but in this case, Ukraine's position will become much weaker, the Ukrainian leader said.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on October 16, Zelenskyy presented the Victory Plan of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada. The document contains five points, three of which have not yet been disclosed. Four of the points are to be implemented during the war, and the fifth – after it ends.
The President has now arrived in Brussels, where he announced the points of the Victory Plan at a meeting of the European Council.
The President's Office said that the Victory Plan does not provide for the liberation of all occupied territories by military means. The main idea of the plan is to force the Kremlin to leave these territories, as the price for their maintenance will become too high for it.
