The UN Charter is not a museum piece: Zelensky says Peace Summit can return protection to every nation
The United Nations Charter must be effective. It is not a museum piece.
This opinion was expressed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during his traditional address. He believes that the Peace Summit, which will be held in Switzerland in June, can return protection to every nation.
According to the Ukrainian President, every state is capable of showing its leadership to make this year a time of victory for international law and justice. This event should prove that it is not just one aggressor that loses, but the very idea of war - the idea of turning the lives of peoples into ruins.
"Russian aggression tried to turn the UN Charter into a museum piece. Our Peace Summit and the participation of global leaders can return the UN Charter to full effectiveness and full protection for every nation. I thank everyone who is already helping us with this! I thank every leader who gives the necessary signals to others in the world - signals that the Summit will really bring a just end to this war," the President said.
Zelensky also said that he continued the diplomatic marathon of preparing for the first Global Peace Summit. On May 22, he personally invited four more states to the event.
"Today I spoke with the leaders of Chile, Albania, Austria and Mozambique. Plus four states at the Summit. Of course, we also discussed our bilateral relations," the president added.
In his traditional address, Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Sweden and Prime Minister Kristersson for the new decision on long-term support for Ukraine over the next three years. The total amount of aid is $7 billion.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Swedish government has decided to allocate 28 million euros to support Ukraine's defense capabilities as it continues to fight a full-scale Russian invasion. Out of this amount, 18 million euros will be transferred to the coalitions within the Contact Group for the Defense of Ukraine, and 10 million euros will be allocated to the NATO fund for Ukraine.
Sweden has also not ruled out the possibility of providing Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems. Stockholm will also provide Kyiv with other air defense systems that will help "close the sky" over our country.
