After the Pentagon announced the need for long-range ATACMS missiles for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to attack Russian targets in the temporarily occupied Crimea, the Russian army began to restore air defense systems on the peninsula. The Ukrainian military has already used these missiles during an attack on the airfield in Dzhankoi.

This statement was made by Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Southern Operational Command. He said this on the air of an all-Ukrainian TV marathon.

According to him, the previous attack destroyed enemy air defense systems on the temporarily occupied peninsula.

"The issue here is not to strengthen it (air defense - ed.) but to restore it. Because the previous attack slightly changed the configuration of the air defense of Crimea as the systems were destroyed," the spokesman emphasized.

According to him, Russian troops even use missile carriers as air defense ships.

"By the way, it failed to cope with this task when the Kommuna ship was hit," Pletenchuk added.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that our military needs long-range ATACMS missiles to hit targets, primarily military airfields, in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

As previously reported, the United States secretly sent long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine in March 2024. Since the beginning of April, the Ukrainian military has already used these weapons against targets in the rear of Russian troops twice.
