On the morning of March 6, Russian troops launched a missile attack on Odesa when Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky were visiting the city. The shelling resulted in deaths and injuries.

Zelensky himself commented on the strike during his visit to Odesa. "We saw this strike today. You see who we are dealing with, they don't care where they hit. I know that there were victims today, I don't know all the details yet, but I know that there are dead and wounded," he said.

The President added that Ukraine needs to strengthen its air defense.

"These are military, civilians, international guests - these people do not care. They are either crazy or completely out of control of their terrorist army's actions. This suggests that we need to defend ourselves first and foremost. The best way to do this is with an air defense system," Zelensky said.

The Greek Prime Minister also commented on the Russian attack on Odesa.

"President Zelenskyy and his staff showed us and explained the importance of the port and what is being done to restore and strengthen the Ukrainian sea route and the damage that was done during the attacks. At the very end, we heard the sound of sirens and explosions that were very close to us . We didn't have time to get to a protected place, it was a very impressive experience," Mitsotakis said.

The air raid in Odesa region was announced at 10:41 a.m., when a powerful explosion was heard. At 10:45, the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported a threat of ballistic missile use.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Mitsotakis arrived in Ukraine on the morning of March 6 on an unannounced visit. He arrived in Odesa, where he met with Zelensky.

Earlier, Greek Special Representative to Ukraine Spyros Lampridis said that Athens was considering increasing military assistance to Kyiv.
