"Five air strikes in one day": Maliar tells how the leak of data on the movement of an AFU brigade turned out, and warns of responsibility

The Russian army conducted five air strikes in 24 hours against the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The attack was carried out after the media reported that the brigade's soldiers had entered the battle in the south.

Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Hanna Maliar wrote about this on her Telegram channel on 21 August. "The price of headlines about where the 82nd Brigade was moved to in the south is five air strikes on the brigade in a day," she said.

Maliar reminded that unauthorised dissemination of information about the Ukrainian Armed Forces is subject to criminal liability.

According to Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code, those guilty of such an offence are punishable by imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years.

According to this article, it is a crime to disseminate information about the movement or location of the Armed Forces or other military formations formed in accordance with the law, provided that they can be identified on the ground, if such information has not been made publicly available by the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine or other authorised state bodies, committed in a state of martial law or emergency.

On 15 August, Forbes magazine reported that the 82nd Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, consisting of 2,000 people, equipped with Marder and Stryker combat vehicles and Challenger 2 tanks, joined the counter-offensive in southern Ukraine. It allegedly started fighting in the area of Rabotyne in Zaporizhzhia. The Politico newspaper had previously called the brigade "almost ridiculously powerful" and an "armoured powerhouse".

The news was enthusiastically picked up by Russian propagandists, who wrote that "Kyiv has allegedly sent its last major unit into battle".

- On Monday, Maliar said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had made progress in the counter-offensive on Zaporizhzhia. Planned combat operations are now underway in the liberated Robotyne.

- The ISW noted that Ukraine has many options to stop the enemy's critical logistics routes along the Azov Sea coast. It is too early to assess the Ukrainian Armed Forces' counter-offensive. According to analysts, the overall weakening of the occupiers' defences creates opportunities for a Ukrainian breakthrough.

- The ISW also stressed that Russia has made great efforts to hold Robotyne and Urozhayne, so the recent successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces there reflect the wider degradation of the invaders' defences.
