"Shame on the whole world!" Polish promoter reacts angrily to Usyk's detention in Krakow
Polish promoter Andrzej Wasilewski reacted angrily to the situation with the detention of former world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk at the Krakow airport. The boxing manager called the situation a worldwide disgrace for his country and expressed confidence that law enforcement officers had no need to handcuff our athlete.
Wasilewski wrote about this on his page on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter. According to him, Usyk was completely sober with properly executed documents, and there was no reason to detain him. He also noted that the Ukrainian showed incredible respect for Polish border guards.
"Our services at the airport did not want to let his friends on the plane for no reason. Usyk refused to get on the plane and was detained. What a shame! As it turned out, it was completely unnecessary and wrong to detain and handcuff Usyk. It is very good that the champion is downplaying this topic in the media. I would like to know who ordered the handcuffing and why, even for such a short time, as if he were an ordinary criminal at Balice airport. It's a terrible shame for the whole world!" said Wasilewski.
As reported by ESPN, Usyk, his wife Kateryna and coach Sergey Lapin Jr. were not allowed on board the flight to Valencia, where the boxer will hold a training camp before his rematch with Tyson Fury. The Ukrainians were told that they were not in a good condition to fly. The boxer himself later addressed the fans.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the arrest of Oleksandr Usyk in Krakow. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also commented on the situation.
