Russian Olympic champion, who had his arms and legs amputated, says Russians 'should not have been suspended'
Roman Kostomarov, the Olympic champion who had his hands and feet amputated, called the suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions unfair. The former figure skater emphasized that the athletes have nothing to do with Russia's criminal war against Ukraine, although he fiercely supports it.
Kostomarov said this in an interview with the propaganda news agency Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union. The former pairs skating partner of Ukraine's traitor Tatyana Navka noted that Russian athletes "should not have been suspended" and repeated traditional Russian media narratives about the politicization of sports.
"They found themselves in a very difficult time. It has always been said that sport is beyond politics, that it should unite people. Athletes were not involved, they should not have been suspended. And it's a disadvantage not only for our athletes, but also for those who are competing there now, because they know that they are not the best on the planet anyway. Everyone should compete and realize their sporting ambitions there. An athlete spends his whole life preparing to become an Olympic champion," Kostomarov said.
After the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Kostomarov hypocritically claimed that the terrorist country had never attacked anyone. On December 13 last year, he was included in the sanctions list of the Verkhovna Rada. On January 7, the relevant decree was signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"I have no complaints, it's just the policy of Zelenskyy and this American Western propaganda. I don't care about Zelenskyy," Z-patriot said in response.
