"People were walking, but they seemed to me to be dead..." Usyk frankly tells what he saw on the front line of the war with Russia

The unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) receives a huge boost of motivation from the defenders of Ukraine who are resisting Russian aggression. According to our boxer, he is constantly in touch with his friends and acquaintances who are on the frontline.

Usyk said this in an interview with Ring TV, recalling his trip to New York in Donetsk Oblast in April this year. The world champion in two weight categories added that he had seen all the horrors of war - the dead and seriously wounded, destroyed cities, and destroyed equipment.

"I lived with the soldiers and spent some time with them. Of course, this gives me more motivation. I get a lot of text messages from my friends who are on the frontline. Sometimes, when I'm talking to my friends on the phone, rockets go off and I hear the bombing, then they say: "Brother, I'll call you if I'm still alive". Through binoculars at an altitude of 900 metres, I saw the enemy fleeing. I saw blown up tanks, destroyed houses. I saw people without legs, without arms. I also saw some people walking, but they seemed to me to be dead..." - Usyk said.

On 26 August in Wroclaw, the Ukrainian will defend his championship belts in a fight against the British Daniel Dubois (19-1, 18 KOs). At the open training session before the fight, Usyk surprised everyone with his performance of the song "Testament" by BALSAM. In addition, Oleksandr admitted that after Russia's full-scale invasion, he was considering suspending his career.
