Monzul made strange decisions

Shakhtar Donetsk defeated Veres Rivne in the match of the 17th round of the Ukrainian Premier League. Coach Marino Pušić's men were stronger on the pitch of the NSC Olimpiyskiy thanks to accurate strikes by midfielder Dmytro Kryskiv and forward Oleksandr Zubkov - 2-0.

At the same time, the main and most scandalous episode of the game took place in the 49th minute of the match. After a shot from the left flank into the Veres penalty area, the ball fell into the feet of the same Zubkov, who decided to take a touch, but hit the opposing defender Yevhen Shevchenko.

The referee of the match, Kateryna Monzul, saw a handball on the part of a Veres player and awarded a penalty. However, the replay clearly shows that the ball hit Shevchenko in the fifth spot. Surprisingly, the video assistance system (VAR), which was monitored by Vitaliy Romanov, confirmed the Kharkiv team's decision.

But the miracles in the work of the referees did not end there. Shot from the "point" Zubkov's shot was saved by the Veres goalkeeper, but Shakhtar forward Danylo Sikan made the save. However, the referees decided that the Ukrainian had run into the penalty area before the shot, and the goal was canceled.

After this victory, Shakhtar gained 31 points and moved closer to the top of the UPL standings. At the same time, the Donetsk team has two games in hand.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the day before, Dynamo Kyiv defeated Metalist-1925 and won its third consecutive victory in the UPL after Mircea Lucescu's resignation. At the same time, Dynamo goalkeeper Ruslan Neshcheret conceded a ridiculous goal when the team was playing with a man advantage.
