Yaroslava Maguchikh, the Ukrainian champion of the 2024 Olympic Games in high jump, will spend her earnings on charity. In an interview with Reuters, the 22-year-old from Dnipro admitted that she supports and will continue to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the war against Russia.
"Our government pays all its athletes $125,000 for an Olympic gold medal. Yaroslava will receive another $50,000 from the International Federation of Athletics.
"First of all, I have a team to whom I have to give something back, because we work together. I'll give part of it to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and also to volunteers, because there are a lot of training camps now and, unfortunately, they have been closing very slowly lately," Maguchikh said.
