The International Federation of Athletics (World Athletics) became the first international sports federation in the world to introduce prize money for winning the Olympic Games. This decision was made before Paris 2024, and one of the first recipients of such a grant was Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Maguchikh.
Our compatriot will receive $50,000 in prize money from World Athletics for winning the 2024 Olympic Games. Such a gift is planned by World Athletics only for gold medal winners.

It's worth noting that the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, initially criticized the decision of World Athletics.
In an interview with the BBC , Bach advised to give all the money not to the Olympic champions, but to the development of athletics around the world. The IOC head believes that all athletes need funding to ensure that they have the best training conditions, the best facilities and that the difference between athletes from poor and rich countries is leveled.
On August 4, Maguchikh won a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in the high jump. The 22-year-old from Dnipro took first place with a result of 2.00 meters.

Another Ukrainian, Iryna Gerashchenko, came in third (195 cm), winning bronze together with Eleanor Patterson (Australia). Mykhailo Kokhan also took third place in the hammer throw tournament.
