Due to disqualification: an extraordinary situation happened to a Ukrainian wrestler at the 2024 Olympics
Ukrainian wrestler Oksana Livach got an unexpected opportunity to win a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The 27-year-old from Lviv lost to India's Vinesh Phogat in the quarterfinals and was supposed to advance to the consolation match against Japan's Yui Susaki, the winner of which was supposed to advance to the so-called small final.
Instead, the confrontation will immediately be a medal match, the press service of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced. This happened after Phogat failed to meet the weight limit of 50 kilograms on the second day of the competition and was disqualified.
Because of this, the entire tournament grid has been shifted, and Livac will now compete for the Olympic award. It is worth noting that Susaki is the current Olympic champion and four-time winner of the world championship. The match between the Ukrainian and the Japanese will take place on August 7 in a slot that starts at 19:15 Kyiv time.
Oksana took fifth place at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, losing in the small final.
