Russian track and field athlete Elena Kulichenko, who competed under the flag of Cyprus at the Paris Olympics, called the topic of the war in Ukraine unnecessary at the tournament in France. The native of Odintsovo near Moscow cynically complained that discussing the aggression of her home country spoils the atmosphere of the competition.

Kulichenko said this in an interview with Sport24. The 22-year-old high jumper noted that she is "not responsible for the actions of countries." In addition, the pseudo-Cypriot repeated the Kremlin's propaganda narratives about the politicization of sports, which allegedly has no place at the Olympics.

"I am not responsible for the actions of countries. This is politics. And I don't understand why people are trying to bring politics into sports. We live in a crazy world. I think the Olympics is a great place to abstract from it and not think about it. But people still try to bring politics into everything. And it's annoying. We can't enjoy the competition because of things like this. I don't care what people around me think. I just concentrate on what I'm doing," Kulichenko said.

Earlier, she was outraged by the statement of Ukrainian Yaroslava Maguchikh about the Russian woman's admission to the Olympics. Before the start of the Games, Kulichenko got into a high-profile scandal when her OnlyFans account was discovered. At the same time, the athlete's brother blamed Ukraine for everything.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the day before, Yaroslava Maguchikh confirmed her status as the main favorite and took the gold medal in the high jump at the Olympic Games.
