Stevenson demands Lomachenko - Haney rematch

Former two-division world champion Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 10 KOs) demanded a rematch with Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) from Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs). The undefeated American expressed confidence that his compatriot would be criticized by fans for the rest of his career if he didn't decide to take such a step.

Stevenson made the comments in an interview with YouTube channel Stamina For Sale, according to Boxing News 24. Shakur, who made his lightweight debut in April and immediately challenged Lomachenko, said that Haney must prove his superiority over the Ukrainian.

"If I were in his place, I would go back to Lomachenko in the ring. Because I wouldn't want the public to judge me on that fight. I wouldn't want the fans to think I was beaten. Because that would haunt Haney for the rest of his career. For example, if Floyd Mayweather had never had a rematch with Jose Luis Castillo, I think the same thing would have stuck with Floyd for the rest of his career. But he went and fought him in a rematch and beat him convincingly," Stevenson said.

Let's remind, fight Lomachenko - Haney passed all 12 rounds and finished by unanimous decision of judges 116-112, 115-113, 115-113 in favor of the American. It should be noted that the judges' notes which were published after the fight caused heated debates among experts and fans.

Russian boxer Sergey Kovalev told that fans swore at the judges after Haynie won the fight. Also, statistics of punches confirmed that the Ukrainian had won at least five rounds. In Russia, one journalist called Lomachenko's boxing in the fight a disgrace.

It became known that Vasyl Lomachenko was suspended from boxing after the fight. Devin Haney himself pounced with insults on the Ukrainian boxer. The team of our compatriot demanded international organizations to announce a mandatory rematch. For his part, Lomachenko expressed confidence that it would be difficult for him to fight again for the title of absolute world champion.

Also, American coach Teofimo Lopez Sr. called the result of Lomachenko - Haney fight a disgrace of boxing. He also compared the judges of the fight to the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Vasyl Lomachenko demanded a rematch from Devin Haney, and noted that it will never happen. He called his score of the May 20 fight, calling the American a coward. In addition, Russian former world champion Grigory Drozd accused the judges of the fight of robbing the Ukrainian.
