Rakhimov assesses Lomachenko - Haney fight

Former world featherweight champion Shavkat Rakhimov (17-1-1, 14 KOs) disagreed with the judges' decision to give American Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) the victory over Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) in a fight on 20 May. The representative of Tajikistan, who has been living in Russia for a long time, noted that he personally attended the fight and considers our compatriot to be the winner.

Rakhimov said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV. He stressed that almost all the spectators in the audience during the fight in Las Vegas were outraged by the score of the fight, which was at stake for the title of absolute lightweight champion of the world

"I was at this fight. I specially went to Las Vegas to see the fight up close and personal. And in the row where I was sitting, there were a lot of boxing fans who were sitting and counting every round to see who won. It was interesting to watch them. And so they counted Lomachenko's victory with a score of 7-5. That is, even people who don't know much about boxing gave the victory to Lomachenko. What can we talk about? You have to think about it," Rakhimov said.

The Lomachenko-Haney fight lasted all 12 rounds and ended with a unanimous decision of 116-112, 115-113, 115-113 in favour of the American. It is worth noting that the judges' notes, which were published after the fight, caused heated debate among experts and fans.

Russian boxer Sergey Kovalev said that fans were swearing at the judges as they left the hall after Haney's victory. In addition, the fight's punch statistics confirm that the Ukrainian won at least five rounds. In Russia, one of the journalists called Lomachenko's boxing in the fight a disgrace.

Also, American trainer Teofimo Lopez Sr. called the result of the Lomachenko-Haney fight a disgrace to boxing. He also compared the fight's judges to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Vasyl Lomachenko demanded a rematch with Devin Haney and said it would never happen. He gave his account of the fight on 20 May, calling the American a coward. In addition, Russian ex-world champion Grigory Drozd accused the fight's judges of robbing the Ukrainian. And the American Shakur Stevenson demanded that Haney give Lomachenko a rematch.
