President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with his European Football Union (UEFA) counterpart Aleksander Čeferin. The Slovenian official had previously made ambiguous statements about the participation of our national team in the 2024 UEFA European Championship, and now he decided to talk to the head of our state.

This is stated in the release of the official UEFA website. It is noted that Zelensky and Čeferin spoke on the phone last weekend, sharing their views on current geopolitical and sports issues. The Slovenian official stressed that his organization would continue to support Ukraine in every way possible.

He expressed "admiration for Ukraine and the courage of its people in these difficult times and expressed hope for a quick and peaceful solution that will bring stability and prosperity." In addition, Čeferin wished Serhii Rebrov good luck in the Euro 2024 qualifying matches.

For his part, Zelensky thanked UEFA for promoting peace, tolerance and justice through its tournaments, as well as for supporting Ukraine after Russia's full-scale invasion.

Before the Ukraine-Italy match, Čeferin called the failure of the Azzurri to qualify for Euro 2024 a disaster. As a result, the game ended in a scandalous 0-0 draw: the result was favorable to the guests. Moreover, in the last minute of the game, an obvious penalty was not awarded to them. Even former Italian national team players recognized this.
