Marta Kostiuk believes that the tennis world has forgotten about real problems

After defeating Elina Avanesyan of Russia (2:6, 6:4, 6:4) in the third round of the Australian Open, Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostiuk criticized journalists who no longer cover Russia's bloody war in her country. The athlete does not understand what players from aggressor countries are doing in Melbourne and believes that her mission is to remind the world that people are still dying in Ukraine.

In a conversation with journalists in Melbourne, 21-year-old Marta spoke about the missiles fired over her home and the plight of her compatriots.

"I respect journalists, but I really don't like some of them. I think it was not the way to cover the situation in Ukraine, but rather to have hot news all the time. They want drama. They wanted news, they wanted this heat of passion between the players. But the war is still there. And people are dying every day," Marta said at the press conference.

Kostiuk admitted that nothing has changed in her world and she does not understand what all these neutral flag players are doing in Australia.

"It seems to me that there are many processes that lead to the moment when people forget about the war, because yes, they get used to it. And, unfortunately, this is no longer the latest news, so journalists are not interested in it. I understand that everyone has their own problems, and everyone is focused on their own business. But I think I'm here to remind everyone that the war is ongoing and must be stopped. And what is happening is not normal," emphasized Marta.

The tennis player reminded that her entire family is in Kyiv during the full-scale war with Russia: "My mom sends me a video of rockets flying over her house. I look at it and it's terrible for me that it's still going on, and it's been almost two years."

"I feel that the West is trying to hush up everything. To talk less about Ukraine, not to develop the topic. In fact, the reality I live in is that everything is very far from over. We are not in the best position. Not that we are in a difficult position now, but the last two years because of the terrible war and the fact that we are in unequal positions," Kostiuk believes.

Marta noted that for the past two years, Ukrainians have been in survival mode, they are very tired, some are depressed. Kostiuk does not feel that this will end soon and does not feel that anyone is doing anything about it.

"I try to do my best, I try to be successful. But at the end of the day, I look around and I don't feel like it's really that important. It's just a tennis match and a tennis tournament, and there's real life out there. And I think that people have forgotten about it," says Marta.
