"They spoil the atmosphere of the holiday": Russian world champion complains about Ukrainians who refuse to shake hands with Russians
World champion hurdler Sergey Shubenkov has once again spoken unpleasantly about Ukrainians. In particular, the Russian athlete accused our compatriots of spoiling "the whole atmosphere of the holiday" by refusing to welcome representatives of the aggressor country to international competitions. He recalled the action of fencer Olga Kharlan, who refused to shake hands with her Russian rival at the World Championships.
Shubenkov, who had previously insulted Yaroslava Maguchikh, said this in an interview with the propaganda news agency R-Sport. The winner of the Beijing 2015 World Championships called Ukrainians "brainwashed fools" and also expressed the inadequate opinion that Western athletes do not even know where our country is located.
"In the West, most athletes do not even know where Ukraine is. Therefore, we should not expect any provocations from them at all. But unfortunately, we can expect them from Ukrainians. And, unfortunately, two brainwashed idiots are enough to spoil the whole atmosphere of celebration, mutual understanding, cultural exchange, which is what all these big competitions have always been about. Propaganda works very well there. Cases of discrimination are rare against the backdrop of either indifference or ignorance of what is really happening," Shubenkov said.
Earlier, three-time world high jump champion Maria Lasitskene, a Russian, started the final tournament of the Queen of Russian Sport series in Yekaterinburg wearing a cap with the words "goodness", "love", "friendship", "peace", for which fans "promised" her a prison sentence.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, world athletics champion and sports commentator Yolanda Chen spoke of feeling ashamed of Russia because of the desire of officials to keep "some minor athletes".
